The ''Requiem'' was a four-movement composition for a chamber quintet of two violins, a viola, a cello, and a Chapman Stick, with possible and debated percussion in the third movement. A tribute to early space travel, the piece builds up to a fourth movement climax representing a binary sunrise. Technically and stylistically challenging, by 3136, the ''Requiem'' was widely known but rarely attempted, seen as an audacious selection.<ref name=DALNp52/>
