The Tripod is reference to a 3-legged 'Mech. These designs include any weight class and can be either a [[BattleMech]] or [[Industrial Mech]].  Tripods are unique in their method of movement, where they do not count face turnings in their cost of movement in tabletop version of the Battletech.
