The Robinson Battle Academy Training Battalion is an attached military formation for training officer candidates of the Robinson Battle Academy. Though not intended for frontline service, the unit has deployed alongside the Robinson Rangers and Draconis March Militia units in emergencies.[3][4]
History
Formation
The very first class of Robinson Battle Academy cadets had just graduated when their world was struck by a surprise Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery invasion that marked the opening of the First Succession War. The cadets fought valiantly against the Combine forces but were ultimately defeated and forced to surrender. Those graduates that survived were forced by Combine troops to dismantle their alma mater with their bare hands and were subsequently interned at a prisoner of war camp on Exeter Island. This incident would become a core memory in the Academy's spirit and another reason behind their hatred of House Kurita. When the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns finally managed to claw their way back and launch a liberation campaign in 2814, they found that the remaining Academy graduates had organized and launched an uprising of their own. The cadets had already partially seized their captors' camp and assisted incoming AFFS forces in driving off the remnants of the Combine troops.[1][2]
The Succession Wars were not kind to Robinson, however, and the Academy, as well as its Training Battalion were not fully back on their feet until 3020. When the institution was finally rebuilt, the Sandoval family spared no expense to ensure that it was more than an equal to the likes of the Sakhara Academy and the New Avalon Military Academy.[1]
War of 3039
Though it trained and supplied many units with officers and MechWarriors, the Training Battalion did not actively participate in the War of 3039 and remained in place on Robinson for the duration of the conflict.[5]
FedCom Civil War
In mid-October 3062, a group of renegade DCMS forces conducted a suicide attack on Robinson that targeted military and civilian targets indiscriminately.[6] The Robinson Rangers, along with the Robinson Battle Academy Training Battalion, responded to the threat and were able to completely wipe out the raiding Combine troops.[7] Among the Academy cadre that responded were Duke Arthur Steiner-Davion and Baron Tancred Sandoval.[8] The Training Battalion again saw action during the unsanctioned invasion of the Combine ordered by James Sandoval. Combined into the Rangers' command structure as a fourth battalion, the Training Battalion assisted in successfully capturing Proserpina by January 3063[9] In July of 3063, the Rangers and attached Training Battalion had significantly recovered that their commanding officer felt comfortable ordering them to invade their next objective, the world of Ashio. Though the initial invasion was relatively straightforward, the Robinson forces became entangled with a foe that was much more experienced than expected, as well as local yakuza elements. In early 3064, the Training Battalion was assigned to guard a munitions plant when they were set upon by a large element of the Forty-sixth Dieron Regulars that had been lured there by yakuza. Unbeknownst to either force, the yakuza had hidden explosives throughout the plant and detonated them as the two units engaged. None of the Battalion's cadets survived the resulting massive explosion. What was left of the Robinson troops were forced to withdraw when Combine reinforcements arrived.[10]
In the aftermath of the invasion and reprisal, the Training Battalion was reformed, though it only had enough 'Mechs and material to field a company-sized force, with the rest of the MechWarrior cadets relegated to simulator duty.[11]
Jihad
Like many of its fellow training commands, the Robinson Battle Academy suffered heavy losses during the horrors of the Jihad and was combat-ineffective by the conflict's conclusion. As the ashes and dust settled, it and its battalion was officially deactivated by Yvonne Steiner-Davion's Academy Appropriations War Powers Act, which left only the privately-operated Sakhara Academy and Goshen War College on the official rolls.[12]
Dark Age
After decades of inactivity, the Robinson Battle Academy and its Training Battalion was reactivated by Caleb Davion in 3136.[13] The battalion was present on Robinson during the DCMS assault in 3144, where it faced elements of Ryuken-nana, who subsequently destroyed the battalion through a combination of maneuver tactics and long-range missile strikes.[13][14] The Battalion remains inactive as of 3151.
